The Future of Iraq

I følge Redd Barnas ferske rapport «The War On Children» ansla°s det at ett av fem barn bor i, eller i umiddelbar nærhet til konfliktomra°der. Det er dette regissør Thee Yezen Al-Obaide fokuserer pa° i denne kortdokumentaren. Han lar tre barn fra Irak fa° spillerom foran kamera til a° beskrive sine hverdagsliv og erfaringer fra krig, og det tilskueren sitter igjen med er rystende historier, skildret pa° poetisk vis. Filmen vant prisen for beste kort- dokumentar pa° Bergen Internasjonale Filmfestival i 2018. Før visningen blir det minikonsert med den syriske musikeren Nawar Alnaddaf, som synger og leser i filmen. Etter visningen tar vi samtalen om hvordan fremtiden ser ut for barn som har opplevd krig på nært hold, og hvordan man best kan hjelpe dem. Visningen er i samarbeid med Medieoperatørene. Thee Yezen Al-Obaide (b. 1983) er født og oppvokst i Irak, og kom til Kristiansand da han var 17 år gammel. Han er journalist og aktivist, og har blant annet jobbet som oversetter på dokumentaren Dugma - The Button av Pål Refsdal. The Future of Iraq er hans regissørdebut. -- One out of five children live in, or in immediate vicinity to, conflict areas, according to the latest report "The War on Children" published by Save the Children. This is the focus of Thee Yezen Al-Obaide`s short documentary, where he lets three Iraqi children tell stories from their life and their experiences from the war directly to the camera. The stories are shocking, but the images and soundscape also makes this a poetic film. The Future of Iraq won the prize for best short documentary at Bergen International Film Festival in 2018. The Syrian musician Nawar Alnaddaf, who sings and reads in the documentary, will be performing live before the screening. The future for kids who have had close experience with war, and how to best help them, will be the theme of a panel discussion held after the screening. The screening is in collaboration with Medieoperatørene. Thee Yezen Al-Obaide (b. 1983) was born and raised in Iraq, and came to Kristiansand, Norway, at 17 with his family. He is a journalist and activist and worked as a translator on Pål Refsdal's film Dugma - The Button. The Future of Iraq is his directorial debut.
